Abobe voice vs. Movie Maker

So which is better for use in the classroom...Movie Maker or Adobe Voice?  Depends on your objectives, age of your kids and how much time you want to devote to a project.  For my classroom of third graders, Adobe Voice is my answer!  To help me decide I enlisted the help of my very own in house second grader, Hailey!  Here is what she created in under an hour...including research, notes, writing a script, practicing speaking, learning a new app and creating a finished project!

Least to say...if you want a quality product that allows kids to get it done without too much heartache, this is a great solution.  Since Adobe Voice doesn't have all the bells and whistles as Movie Maker the kids don't get hung up playing with the presentation, instead they can focus on their content.  The only four choices the students have are their template, music for the background, theme, and layout.

What I noticed while helping my daughter was that she easily picked up how to use the app.  Also, the ability to instantly playback recordings offered an instantaneous reflection in which my daughter choose to record over several times to make it more fluent.  She also realized that it was very important to write and practice their scripts before creating the presentation.  Perfect!

My only complaint...having to hold the button down while recording....  Makes it hard to hold their papers while recording.

How do I plan on using this in the classroom?

  1. Making presentations
  2. Recording fluency with a picture of the text.  Do at the beginning, middle, and end of school year.
  3. Having kids record audiobooks for a classroom set
  4. Explaining their ideas about their art or answers for math problem solving!
  5. Archiving art, writing or other work ( see video example below)
  6. Explaining science experiment using visuals
  7. Vocabulary review

Padlets, QR Codes and Writing

Today I am working on compiling resources for my students to complete their research on The Statue of Liberty.  Using Padlet I am able to bring all the classroom resources into a collection in one spot.  On top of that I am able to export it many ways.  I am actually taking advantage of printing the QR code for a direct link for students to access the resources I have picked out for them.  Padlet is similar to Livebinders, but I think it is more visually pleasing to the eye.  As an extension to this assignment I think it would be neat to have students make a short video in Adobe Voice teaching others about the Statue of Liberty.  See an example on the Padlet labeled "Short student presentation".
